Beauty Buys.

At long last I’ve finally tried out my recent make up purchases and this post will be all about me reviewing each one. I decided to write about these products all in one blog due to it primarily being face and eye make up, so I could wear it all at once unlike lipstick.

I picked up these products at long last a few weeks ago, after having them on my make up wish list for quite a while. I purchased, The Blushed Nudes by Maybelline, Super Liner Perfect Slim by Loreal, Collection Speedy Highlighter and Rose Boudoir Nude Smoky Eye Shadow by Bourjois.

After using The Nudes by Maybelline prolifically for the past few months, I was filled with excitement when I heard about the new Blushed Nudes Palette being released. It’s a complete contrast to the previous eye shadow collection and full of romantic colours filled with glitter and perfect shades for the summer. I decided to try and create a warm 1950s shimmery pink look by picking the vibrant pink shade on the bottom right and the peach gold shade on the top right. The great thing with these palettes is that there are instruction guides pictured on the back to give you an idea of which shades work best together. However, I decided I’d just try and used my imagination and go with my instinct, which doesn’t always turn out great but I think this time it went pretty well overall. After testing the palette out I think I actually enjoy these shades more than the previous nude collection and can’t wait to create more styles!

I’ve definitely been inspired to try certain make up products after watching YouTuber Vloggers talk about some of their favourite buys. Therefore, after viewing Zoella’s Favourite Drugstore & High Street Make Up Products video, I knew I had to try her favourite go to eye liner – Super Liner Perfect Slim by Loreal. What impressed me most about this product was how thin the felt tip was, as someone who likes to build up their liner, it is a lot less intimidating when the pen is slim and not chunky. The colour is an intense black and didn’t start to run out when forming each wing, it also doesn’t fade or need reapplying and lasts all day. Ultimately, all I can say is – thank you Zoella!

Speaking of Youtubers, as you all probably know by now I have an absolute favourite and her name is Em aka MyPaleSkinBlog. One of the great things about her is she uses all different kinds of products, from super expensive to very affordable and is always honest and open about her reviews. I saw her recommend the Collection Speedy Highlighter and with highlighting taking over the make up world I thought I’d give it a try. At only £3.99 it was definitely worth the money, although it isn’t very noticeable in these photos, I could notice it on my cheeks during the day. I felt I had to use a fair amount, but that wasn’t a problem as it’s extremely easy  to use – you just roll and then blend in. I’ve only tried it over my blusher, so I do wonder if it will look more intense on it’s own?  All I know is practice is key, but for a first time highlighter it’s pretty good!

Last but not least, I picked up this beautiful Glittery Gold Bourjois Compact during my Holiday in Spain a month or so ago. I love contrasting my super intense winged eyeliner with a subtle calming eye shadow, I definitely follow Marilyn’s make up wisdom there! I actually tried all three colours today, blending the darkest shadow in the crease and I think they are absolutely beautiful. As you can see from this picture with my make up today, the highlighter is a lot more noticeable, but sadly the eye shadow can’t be seen very well so you’ll have to trust my judgement.

Overall I’m very pleased with my make up purchases and I look forward to continue sharing with you my thoughts and reviews! If you’ve tried any of these or similar products before, let me know what you think!

Nyx Cosmetics.

After watching my favourite Beauty Blogger Em aka mypaleskin use countless NYX Cosmetics products and reading about the hype of this new range I knew I’d have to find out  for myself what the fuss was all about. Ironically, my local Boots Store has just started stocking NYX so today I bought my first ever purchases!

As I was in a bit of a rush, I quickly picked up a few products that caught my eye; Cream Highlight & Contour Palette, Soft Matte Lip Creme, Extreme Colour Lip Liner and Felt Tip Liner.

I first tried the Cream Highlight & Contour Palette and realized I’d made a mistake, although the product is a lovely quality, I didn’t realize it was a cream format instead of powder. I’d already started using it when it came to my attention that the palette I should have picked up was the slightly more expensive Highlight & Contour Pro Palette. However, as I’ve bought the cream palette I will definitely try it and see if my feelings change. I think what puts me off is having to use my fingers multiple times to get even a tiny bit of product on, compared to a brush which is a lot less messy and more professional. I couldn’t even notice the accent or highlight on my face, so I’ll definitely have to use more the next time I try it. This has made me realize I should definitely get a specific contouring brush as I’m sure that will make a difference.  Of course I realize less is more but I’d like my make up to be slightly noticeable, at least to me. I will be honest, contouring is totally new to me and quite out of my comfort zone, but I hope with trying different products and learning the tricks I will be able to master it some day.

As lipsticks are my favourite product, I couldn’t wait to see all of the different shades available by NYX and I was definitely impressed! They had a variety of different lipstick formats including Butter, High Voltage, Matte, Liquid Suede Creme and Soft Matte Lip Creme. The latter is the product I chose to try as there’s such a huge obsession with Liquid Lipsticks right now and at only £5.50 I was happy to pay the price. What’s really interesting about the Soft Matte Lip Creme is it’s described as, “not lipstick nor gloss” so of course this peaked my curiosity. I chose the shade, “Ibiza”, a warm red/pink suitable for my everyday vintage style and I must say, when I applied the product it smelt absolutely beautiful! It dried fairly quickly from a silky formula and transformed into a matte finish. The only slight negative I’d say is if I was out for a long day I’d definitely take the Lip Creme with me, as it doesn’t stay as well as some of my other lipsticks. However, the quality is lovely and it’s definitely worth the buy for such a good price.

I chose a bold red Lip Liner to go with my Lip Creme and because shockingly, I only have one red lip pencil! I thought this product applied very smoothly and it had such a soft feel on my lips, sometimes lip pencils can be really rough and harsh so I was pleasantly surprised. Again, I don’t feel this lasted as well as my other lip pencils, maybe it was just more obvious to me because of the bolder colour? Who knows. However, I’m loving all the variety of products available at NYX and I definitely will be trying other products.

Lastly I decided to pick up a Felt Tip Liner as it’s been quite a while since I’ve used this format, I’m currently using liquid and gel. I’ve had felt liners in the past and really liked them so I thought I’d try this one out. The product applied boldly and was pretty simple to use, I really like that the tip is long as it’s a lot easier to create my flicks. However, if I could change one thing it would be to make the tip slightly thinner, I prefer to build up my liner instead of starting too thick. I’ve noticed that the tip of the liner has dried out considerably since it’s first use, which is very frustrating. To be fair, I haven’t used a felt tip in a long time and maybe I’ll prefer this again with more use!

After trying all of these products I think the quality is wonderful and it’s definitely worth purchasing for such a good price. As for some of the products not being as long lasting as I hoped, it’s often works out the more you pay the better the product will stay, so I don’t hold it against NYX.

Clinique Cherry Pop Lipstick.

Yesterday I finally bought one of Clinique’s new  Pop Lip Colour and Primer Lipsticks!  I will admit, this is actually my first product of their’s, but I was definitely not disappointed. I also hope to try their skin range in the future as it’s been highly recommended, so if anyone else is a user of Clinique, please let me know, I’d love to hear more opinions.

Such beautiful packaging!
Such beautiful packaging!

I’ve heard wonderful things about this brand for quite a while now and started to noticed a lot adverts  in magazines of their new lipsticks, so I finally decided to give one a try. The lipsticks are priced at £16 so not cheap, but not too expensive either. It’s definitely a quality product and I’m all for paying a reasonable price if the item is worth it.

You already know the colour of the lipstick because it's the container!
You already know the colour of the lipstick because it matches the container!

The thing I liked most about the lipstick was of course, the packaging! I do love details and the lipstick is very aesthetically pleasing. I love how the container actually matches the colour of the lipstick, it’s such a cool idea and makes their lipsticks stand out from the rest. The names are really cute too, Cherry Pop sounds so vibrant and chic!

Not only is the product a lipstick but it’s also a primer, so I actually did the unthinkable and wore the colour without a lip pencil! I was skeptical that it would last the eight hours it claims to, but I haven’t had to retouch it once. Ironically enough I really wanted to reapply because the lipstick is so beautiful, but I know it’s a good thing that I didn’t have to.

The lipstick is so smooth and shiny, it hasn’t dried my lips out at all and has kept them moisturized and crack free all day.  It’s such a classic red colour too, perfect for vintage lovers like myself, I feel like I’m back in the 1940s and 1950s! The texture almost looks like a lip gloss, however,  it isn’t sticky at all, just wonderful!

I absolutely adore the green floral packaging that the lipstick came in, details really make a product and I will actually keep it because it’s so pretty and has a vintage look to it. The only downside I can think of about the lipstick is in the lid, it’s pretty hard to open and close, although I guess that could be considered a good thing. There are fifteen other colours in the collection and I will definitely be trying some other colours in the future.

The first picture was taken after I’d just applied the lipstick, the second picture was taken an hour and a half or so later after I’d had my lunch and the last picture was taken some six hours after I first applied the lipstick. I’m very impressed with how long it’s lasted, not one reapplication!

I also bought another Eye Liner; Rimmel London Scandal Eyes again, but this time the Precision Micro Eyeliner. As I’ve said in a previous post, I bought the Thick and Thin Eyeliner and although I do like it, I much prefer this one. The thinner tip is a lot easier to apply to the eyelid, it reaches right to the root of the eyelash and this time I didn’t need to put my liquid eyeliner over. I love that the tip is small as I much prefer building my eyeliner up then starting off with it far too thick and having to redo it all.

I recommend both of these products and hope you guys are inspired to try them too!
