Max Factor Marilyn Monroe Lipsticks.

If there’s one thing I love more than make up, it’s Marilyn Monroe, (you guys can learn all about that here) and so my whole day was made when I found out that Max Factor were releasing Marilyn Monroe Lipsticks! Marilyn is currently the face of Max Factor, although personally, I believe all credit for her look should go to her Make-Up Artist and friend, Allan “Whitey” Synder – but, that’s another story!

There are four lipsticks in the collection; Berry, Cabernet, Ruby Red and Sunset Red, I currently have the Cabernet and Sunset Red. Max Factor suggest the shades Sunset Red for Warm Tones and Cabernet for Dark Tones, however I feel you should wear whichever shade you like.

What makes the product stand out from the other Max Factor Lipsticks is the bold red colour, which further emphasizes the Marilyn inspiration. The bottom of each case matches the shade of each lipstick, so without even opening the container you will know what colour you’ve picked!

At first when I tried Cabernet, I noticed how shiny and glossy the lipstick was when I applied it, therefore I was quite apprehensive on how the product would last. However, after I blotted my lips the texture of the lipstick became more matte and I was pleasantly surprised to see the colour had stayed put. I wanted to see how long the lipstick would last and therefore didn’t apply a lip pencil and hours later, after eating numerous times the lipstick was still there! I was very impressed.

At £7.99 these lipsticks are well worth the money and are a quality product! With being inspired by Marilyn they have a lot to live up to and  they definitely do her justice. After wearing Cabernet yesterday, today I decided to try Sunset Red, before trying either I had an inclination that I would prefer Cabernet and I was right.  Sunset Red is a lovely colour, but I personally find it too orangey and coral for my liking. It applies fine and both lipsticks smell absolutely gorgeous, they remind me of the Tutti Frutti sweets. However, out of the two I definitely prefer Cabernet and will wear that one more often.

I can’t wait to try the other shades; Berry and Iconic Red, it will be interesting to see how much I like Berry as that lipstick is meant to suit cool skin tones. If any of you try the Marilyn Lipsticks yourself then please let me know which is your favourite and why, I’d love to hear your reviews!

After seeing these lipsticks advertised in Grazia, I knew that I had to try one and see what I thought, so today I bought two shades from Boots. They have a 3 for 2 offer on their make up products, so my mum got one also. I have a couple of Max Factor Lipsticks and a Lip Pencil which is my favourite, so I know that they are a quality brand.

The first thing I absolutely love about these lipsticks has to be the packaging! Although I’m not usually a fan of gold, I love gold make up containers because it reminds me of make up from the Golden Era of Hollywood. I found them to be wonderful and easy to apply, and the shape of them is perfect for contouring your lip line. They also smell gorgeous, the scent reminded me of a  fruity lip balm.

Although I really like the lipsticks, I was a bit disappointed in the almost satin finish. I bought a Real Techniques Lip Brush today and found that to be wonderful, I’ve tried their products before and I still use their brushes every day. However, because of the finish of the lipstick, I felt it took forever to build up on my lips and in the end I just used the lipstick itself for application. Luckily it wasn’t a problem as like I said before, the flat almost oval shape of the lipstick is perfect.

Max Factor are true to their advertisement, the lipstick is moisturizing and feels like a lip balm conditioning your lips. The lipsticks are £8.99, so in medium price range and I’d say they are worth the money definitely. The colours I chose were, Always Chic and Ever Sumptuous and my mum chose Evermore Sublime. My favourite shades to wear are deep reds for the 1940s/1950s and peachy corals for the 1960s, whilst my mum loves pinks so altogether I have quite a few shades to show you all!

After trying all of the shades, I would say that my favourite as you’ve probably guessed is Always Chic, the red one. I think it fits my vintage style the best and is the boldest colour out of all three.

I also picked up a new Benefit Eye Bright. Ever since learning about Marilyn’s Make Up Routine and how she wore a white eyeliner to highlight, I always make sure to apply it in the inner rim of my eye. Plus, it also contrasts great with my winged eyeliner and lashes and helps to make your eyes look bigger. Lastly, I bought an eye shadow brush, for years I’ve been using the mini eye shadow applicators with the foam tip which are great for shaping, but after a while they tend to need replacing.
