NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Milan.

As I’ve said many times, pink may be one of my absolute favourite colours and has been for many years, but it’s definitely not one of my go to shades of lipstick to wear. However, this post could shock you all, as I think I may have discovered the perfect pink that I actually… love to wear! Shocking, I know.

A few of you may be thinking, “I’m sure she’s wrote about quite a few pink shades of lipstick” and I’ll agree, to an extent. Although the shades I’ve wrote about have been mostly mauve shades, which although has a pink tint, is overall a different colour. However, this lipstick is definitely the colour in question and one I happen to adore and this post shall tell you why.

I’ve previously tried NYX’S Matte Lip Cream in the shade, “Ibizia” and wrote about this wonderful lipstick and brand in this post published last year. Therefore, when I happened to be browsing through their lipsticks a few weeks ago, (I was of course testing many shades on my hand, so much so that I practically created a rainbow) I came acrossMilan“. I’m surprised I actually picked it up as for the hundredth time, we all know that pink isn’t my must wear shade, although I do like a variety so, for whatever reason I swiped the lipstick on my hand. After trying out what seemed like hundreds of lipsticks on my hand, I was continuously drawn back to Milan and thankfully, I ended up buying it.

At just £5.50, the Soft Matte Lip Cream’s are a pretty great price, although if I could change one thing I do wish the product was a slightly bigger size. However, overall it is definitely worth the money. There are so many different shades in this collection and I especially love how each lipstick is named after a City! Pretty cool huh? The lip wand is also perfect and this is actually the only lipstick I will apply without using my must have lip brush! I think the reason is because not too much product comes out onto the wand therefore making it a lot easier to use in creating the perfect pout.

The soft matte cream formula is slightly different to a liquid lipstick, it dries very quickly but as described, it applies as a cream formula – not liquid. A positive to this is it’s definitely less messy if you happen to sometimes make a bit of a mess like myself. I would say that a applying a few coats of this product is a good idea as it’s not as long lasting as some others. However, for the price it is amazing quality and pretty pigmented.

I absolutely love the smell of the NYX Lip Cream, it’s not too strong and is a beautiful vanilla like scent. Plus, once fully applied it doesn’t even really feel like you have any product on your lips, which is a super bonus as we all know how uncomfortable sticky, flaky lipsticks can be. The packaging is pretty similar but very pretty and as someone who is a huge fan of the added details, I really appreciate the NYX Logo with the little heart. I also think it’s a wonderful idea how each product is the colour of the shade you purchase.

Therefore, as you can tell – this is without doubt my favourite pink lipstick I own, I think it’s due to the unique cool tone shade that NYX have created. I can’t think of another one like it and it’s definitely not easy coming up with variations when there are so many amazing colours out there. It’s not a baby pink or hot pink, it’s truly unique!

Have you got any NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams and if so, which is your favourite?

Five Perfect Autumn Lipstick Shades.

Paraphrasing the wise words of George R. R. Martin – Autumn Is Coming! Actually, to be pretty frank, it’s well and truly here and apart from the orange leaves and snuggling in front of the fire, what else could be better than choosing the perfect shades of lipstick?

To suit the Season, I find the perfect shades to wear are usually purples, burgundies or anything fairly dark, so after finally being inspired by Laura – I’m going to share with you guys my Top Five shades. However, it’s all about being comfortable and happy with yourself so if the colours aren’t for you then that’s okay, it’s just my personal opinion.

My first lipstick recommendation has to be MAC’s Up The Amp – a purple shade with an amplified finish. I think this colour is perfect for Autumn weather due to it’s vibrant intense purple fitting perfectly with the cool and windy weather. I also believe this shade suits all types of skin tones and is suitable for everyone to try due to it being quite versatile.  On the website the lipstick is described as a, “Lavender Violet“. However, I feel it is more intense than the image shown, the shade is definitely very bold and stands out. At £15.50 this product comes in at the medium to high end price range but as a lot of my lipsticks are from MAC, I can definitely say they are worth the money and are very good quality.

Next up is NYX’s Cherry Skies – to me, this colour is the signature shade for Autumn due to it’s rusty burgundy tone. It is a deep matte red in liquid lipstick formula and is only £6.50, which comes in towards the cheaper price range and it is definitely worth your money. I actually think that NYX’s Liquid Lipsticks are better than some of the high end products out there, they stay on and are lasting! This shade is an absolute show stopper – a statement bold you can’t miss me red and because of this it may be intimidating to some. However, if you’re a red lipstick lover like me, it’s definitely worth branching out and giving it a try! I feel this colour is a perfect compliment to the rusty orange and red leaves of Autumn and has a very 1920s vintage vamp feel.

My third must have shade for Autumn is MAC’s Twig, described on their website as a, “Soft Muted Brownish-Pink” which I think sums the colour up perfectly. Although, I do think once again the lipstick looks slightly lighter than it actually is, it is definitely darker than pictured. The finish for Twig is Satin, which is a glossy texture so it looks quite shiny, however I feel the colour stays and if this bothers you than a lip pencil can always be used to make it last – I use Hover. This shade is not too bold but definitely isn’t a nude lipstick, so if you want a subtle look than this isn’t really for you. Personally, I prefer to go for a bolder colour in the colder season and pink coral shades for the warmer weather.

Number four is Rimmel’s Glam Plum Fulham in 470, which is an intense purple-burgundy shade with a glossy finish. After not wearing this colour for a while I decided to apply it today, so I could review it for this post and at first I was pretty shocked with how bold it was. I was almost unsure if this shade suited me at first because it stood out so much but once I’d finished applying I loved the end result. At £6.49 this lipstick is nearer the cheaper priced products but once again I found the quality to be long lasting even with the glossy texture. The product is described as a “Moisture Renew” lipstick and I can definitely say that after wearing this all day my lips have not felt dry and I’ve not needed to reapply it either.

Last but not least is probably one of the most popular lipsticks around; MAC’s Velvet Teddy. With Kylie Jenner setting the nude trend for lipsticks on fire, this soon became the top selling shade in MAC’s Collection so of course,  I had to find out what the fuss was all about. Velvet Teddy is described as a, “Deep Tone Beige” with a matte finish and I would pretty much agree with that description. The colour looks like the perfect shade for autumn and it’s not too nude, it actually has a proper brownish tint to it and doesn’t drain your face. The only problem is this lipstick is extremely popular so it may take a few trips to MAC before you actually come home with one.

I hope you enjoyed my Five Perfect Autumn Lipstick Shades and they inspire you to update your look and try something new. There are so many amazing colours out there to make your own!

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Cherry Skies Lipstick.

As I mentioned in my last post, not only did I buy one NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick – I bought two, which couldn’t be anymore different from one another; Pink Lust and Cherry Skies.

Sticking with my favourite shade to wear – red, I decided to try and branch out from the obvious blue tone 1950s classics and went for one that was extremely dark. The lipstick instantly reminded me of a 1920s vampy shade that a femme fatale such as Louise Brooks or Theda Bara would have worn. It was so bold and daring and would definitely stand out, so I decided this was the one to try.

I also thought it would be wise to buy a lip pencil to apply under the liquid lipstick and therefore make it last longer, so I chose the closest shade I could find aptly titled, Dark Red. I only  realized once I’d got home that the lip pencil was a retractable one which, although a great idea, over the years I’ve had many that snapped fairly easily. However, my apprehension was entirely unnecessary as the lip pencil worked wonderfully and didn’t break! So I’d definitely recommend the NYX Mechanical Lip Pencils. It’s refreshing to be able to actually use  a pencil and not be fearful of pressing too much encase it snaps, plus, no sharpener is needed!

When applying the liquid lipstick I soon realized that with this shade and product, less is definitely more! I also learned that it was extremely important for me not to rush and take my time as the colour is so bold and obvious any messes would clearly stand out. As I started to apply the lipstick I actually felt a bit intimidated and anxious as to how it would actually look on me. Before the product dried it was almost black and although I love being bold with lipsticks, I definitely don’t think I’m ready to try something so stand out just yet. I can’t pull it off like Kylie Jenner that’s for sure!

However, as soon as the liquid had transformed into a matte lipstick I was very happy with the shade, it was different but still ultimately a classic vintage colour – just what I aim for! All I really needed was a blunt bob and I could have almost pretended I was a 1920s Flapper, well, maybe not but it’s always nice to have an imagination, right?

I did notice that this shade didn’t seem to last as long as Pink Lust, the lipstick I reviewed in my previous post. The only conclusion I can come up with is because it’s such a bold colour and contrasts so much with my actual lip colour, it must be more noticeable. Either way, this is only the first time I’ve worn this lipstick so I’m sure a bit of patience and practice will help to improve it.

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Pink Lust Lipstick.

Today I finally got to try my new NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in the shocking fuchsia shade called Pink Lust, which I purchased from Boots for only £6.50! Just recently NYX Cosmetics have opened in stores across the UK and all I can say is, it was definitely worth the wait – there are simply so many items to choose from! It truly is a make up lovers dream.

Ever since my favourite Beauty Blogger, Em aka mypaleskinblog mentioned this brand in her videos I have been so excited to see what all the hype was about and try the products for myself. I’ve previously posted about NYX Cosmetics in another post and true to my word, I’ve bought more products to try! I absolutely love how the shade of the lipstick matches the packaging, it’s so pretty and very pleasing to the eye.

What I love about NYX is the amount of lipstick products they have available, there are so many styles and finishes to choose from! Therefore, I knew as soon as I saw the Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks I had to try them out, especially as I’m slightly obsessed with liquid lipsticks right now. I really love their Soft Matte Lip Cream and as this was an extra pound more, I was hoping this would be even better – and I was not disappointed!

As I’m such a lipstick lover, I’ve been trying to branch out and try different shades, as often I’ll buy a similar colour thinking it’s slightly different and it’s an almost exact match. I decided to go for something that would stand out, be vibrant and a bit edgy and as soon as I saw Pink Lust I knew I had to try it. Like I’ve said many times before, I absolutely love the colour but I only really wear nude or hot pink shades, rarely pale or neon pinks. However, I thought I might as well try a new shade and see if it may change my mind.

As the lipstick is in a liquid formula before it dries, I applied it without a lip brush and just used the wand stick instead. It was easy to use and quickly dried into a matte finish within seconds! The shade is so bold and pigmented and I only needed to put one coat on my lips. I didn’t even have a lip pencil similar to this shade, so I wore it alone and hours later it is still very much intact so I’d say this has lasted very well!

This colour is perfect for anyone who loves a bold shade and of course, the colour pink! Plus, it’s such a vibrant and warm shade to wear for the summer, it definitely brightens up your face. I actually have another Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick so I look forward to sharing that with you all! I can’t wait to try out the other variations of lipsticks NYX have to offer, there are so many shades and amazing creations!

Nyx Cosmetics.

After watching my favourite Beauty Blogger Em aka mypaleskin use countless NYX Cosmetics products and reading about the hype of this new range I knew I’d have to find out  for myself what the fuss was all about. Ironically, my local Boots Store has just started stocking NYX so today I bought my first ever purchases!

As I was in a bit of a rush, I quickly picked up a few products that caught my eye; Cream Highlight & Contour Palette, Soft Matte Lip Creme, Extreme Colour Lip Liner and Felt Tip Liner.

I first tried the Cream Highlight & Contour Palette and realized I’d made a mistake, although the product is a lovely quality, I didn’t realize it was a cream format instead of powder. I’d already started using it when it came to my attention that the palette I should have picked up was the slightly more expensive Highlight & Contour Pro Palette. However, as I’ve bought the cream palette I will definitely try it and see if my feelings change. I think what puts me off is having to use my fingers multiple times to get even a tiny bit of product on, compared to a brush which is a lot less messy and more professional. I couldn’t even notice the accent or highlight on my face, so I’ll definitely have to use more the next time I try it. This has made me realize I should definitely get a specific contouring brush as I’m sure that will make a difference.  Of course I realize less is more but I’d like my make up to be slightly noticeable, at least to me. I will be honest, contouring is totally new to me and quite out of my comfort zone, but I hope with trying different products and learning the tricks I will be able to master it some day.

As lipsticks are my favourite product, I couldn’t wait to see all of the different shades available by NYX and I was definitely impressed! They had a variety of different lipstick formats including Butter, High Voltage, Matte, Liquid Suede Creme and Soft Matte Lip Creme. The latter is the product I chose to try as there’s such a huge obsession with Liquid Lipsticks right now and at only £5.50 I was happy to pay the price. What’s really interesting about the Soft Matte Lip Creme is it’s described as, “not lipstick nor gloss” so of course this peaked my curiosity. I chose the shade, “Ibiza”, a warm red/pink suitable for my everyday vintage style and I must say, when I applied the product it smelt absolutely beautiful! It dried fairly quickly from a silky formula and transformed into a matte finish. The only slight negative I’d say is if I was out for a long day I’d definitely take the Lip Creme with me, as it doesn’t stay as well as some of my other lipsticks. However, the quality is lovely and it’s definitely worth the buy for such a good price.

I chose a bold red Lip Liner to go with my Lip Creme and because shockingly, I only have one red lip pencil! I thought this product applied very smoothly and it had such a soft feel on my lips, sometimes lip pencils can be really rough and harsh so I was pleasantly surprised. Again, I don’t feel this lasted as well as my other lip pencils, maybe it was just more obvious to me because of the bolder colour? Who knows. However, I’m loving all the variety of products available at NYX and I definitely will be trying other products.

Lastly I decided to pick up a Felt Tip Liner as it’s been quite a while since I’ve used this format, I’m currently using liquid and gel. I’ve had felt liners in the past and really liked them so I thought I’d try this one out. The product applied boldly and was pretty simple to use, I really like that the tip is long as it’s a lot easier to create my flicks. However, if I could change one thing it would be to make the tip slightly thinner, I prefer to build up my liner instead of starting too thick. I’ve noticed that the tip of the liner has dried out considerably since it’s first use, which is very frustrating. To be fair, I haven’t used a felt tip in a long time and maybe I’ll prefer this again with more use!

After trying all of these products I think the quality is wonderful and it’s definitely worth purchasing for such a good price. As for some of the products not being as long lasting as I hoped, it’s often works out the more you pay the better the product will stay, so I don’t hold it against NYX.
